| MBTI, what is it?
The Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator® is the most widely
used personality inventory in the world, providing a picture of
a person’s personality type. The MBTI® is a questionnaire
based on the psychological teachings of Carl Jung. Beginning with
his work, Isabel Myers and Katherine Briggs developed a way to measure
an individual’s preferences on these four dichotomous scales
that describes where people prefer to focus their attention and
get their energy, how people prefer to take in information, how
people prefer to make decisions, and how people prefer to deal with
the outer world.
The combinations of these preferences result in 16 distinct personality
types. Understanding characteristics unique to each personality
type provides insight on how they influence an individual’s
way of communicating and interacting with others socially and in
the workplace. Utilizing the MBTI, and materials developed by Linda
Berns Ph.D. at TRI, you will be able to:
| • |
Enlarge and deepen your self-knowledge and understanding
of your behavior preferences. |
| • |
Better understand how you react and work in social situations
and job situations. |
| • |
Understand how Temperament Diversity is essential to healthy
organizations. |
| • |
Identify a shorthand description of the four sets of mental
processes that describe preferred ways of functioning in the
world. |
